Adeline Ravoux, 1890. Creator: Vincent van Gogh (Dutch, 1853-1890)
Adeline Ravoux, 1890. In May 1890, Van Gogh left the south and settled in Auvers, a small town north of Paris, where he rented a room at the inn of Arthur Ravoux. This portrait, completed during the last months of the artists life, depicts Ravouxs 13-year-old daughter, Adeline. Van Gogh wrote that rather than photographic resemblance, he wanted his portraits to convey the " impassioned aspects" of contemporary life through the " modern taste for colour." Bequest of Leonard C. Hanna Jr. 1958.31

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases Vincent van Gogh's portrait of Adeline Ravoux, created in 1890. During the final months of his life, Van Gogh settled in Auvers, a small town near Paris, and rented a room at the inn owned by Arthur Ravoux. It was during this time that he painted this remarkable piece depicting Adeline Ravoux, who was just 13 years old at the time. Van Gogh's intention with his portraits went beyond mere photographic resemblance; he aimed to capture the impassioned aspects of contemporary life through his unique modern taste for color. This particular painting is a testament to his ability to infuse vibrant hues into his work. The bequest of Leonard C. Hanna Jr. , made in 1958, brought this extraordinary artwork to The Cleveland Museum of Art where it now resides as part of their collection. As one gazes upon this post-impressionist masterpiece, they are transported back in time to witness both Van Gogh's artistic brilliance and Adeline Ravoux's youthful innocence frozen forever on canvas. This print from Heritage Images allows art enthusiasts and admirers alike to appreciate the beauty and significance of Vincent van Gogh's legacy. It serves as a reminder not only of the artist's immense talent but also of the fleeting nature of life itself captured within each brushstroke.
