Matthias Corvinus Hunyadi (1443-1490), also known as Matthias I or Matthias the Just, was a prominent ruler of Hungary from 1458 to 1490. Born in Transylvania as the eldest son of John Hunyadi, a powerful magnate and military leader, Matthias was educated in humanist traditions and became known for his patronage of the arts and sciences.
