EDITORS COMMENTS
In this photograph, taken by the renowned portraitist Madame Yevonde in 1932, we find Mrs Vernon Tate, flanked by her four daughters: Hon. Diana Russell, Cynthia Stock, Pamela Tate, and Virginia Tate. The eldest daughter, Diana, was born to Mrs Tate's first marriage to the late 25th Lord de Clifford. Her younger sister Cynthia was born from Mrs Tate's second marriage to the late Captain Arthur Stock. Mrs Tate, formerly Evelyn Victoria Anne Chandler, is elegantly dressed in an exquisite gown, her regal bearing and serene expression radiating an air of sophistication and grace. Her eldest daughters, Diana and Cynthia, mirror their mother's refined demeanor, each holding a book in their laps, engrossed in their reading. The two younger girls, Pamela and Virginia, sit playfully in front of their mothers, one resting her head on a knee and the other gazing up at the camera with a curious expression. This photograph captures the essence of an aristocratic family in the 1930s, a time when the upper class was known for its grandeur, tradition, and elegance. The intricate details of the girls' dresses, the delicate folds of their mothers' gown, and the warm, inviting atmosphere of the room transport us back in time, offering a glimpse into the lives of these young women and their mother. The photograph, a testament to the rich history of the era, continues to captivate and inspire viewers with its timeless beauty and charm.
