A depiction by C.E.Turner of a scene during the early morning of 6th June 1944 as British forces make an amphibious landing on one of the Normandy beaches during D-Day. The scene is a mass of men, landing craft, ships and all manner of tanks and other vehicles being offloaded onto the beach. To the lower left can be seen the important Beach Master (arm raised), issuing orders, sometimes conveyed by the morse code signaller behind him, his light powered by a pedalled dynamo.Though the artist was not present, his work was based on the eye-witness account of Commander Antony Kimmins of the Royal Navy

"This evocative print by British artist C.E. Turner depicts the chaotic scene at a Normandy beach during the early hours of June 6, 1944, as British forces began their amphibious landing in what would become known as D-Day. The image is a testament to the sheer scale and complexity of the operation, with men, landing craft, ships, and an array of tanks and other vehicles being offloaded onto the sandy shore. To the lower left of the composition, the important figure of the Beach Master can be seen, his arm raised as he issues orders to the troops and support personnel around him. The Beach Master's communication with the troops and naval vessels offshore is conveyed through a combination of verbal commands and Morse code signals, the latter transmitted by the Morse code signaller behind him, who powers the light for the signals with a pedalled dynamo. Though Turner was not present at the Normandy Invasion, his work was based on the firsthand account of Commander Antony Kimmins of the Royal Navy, who witnessed the events unfold. The historical accuracy of the scene is further underscored by the meticulous attention to detail in the depiction of the various military vehicles and equipment. This powerful image captures the sense of urgency and determination that marked the beginning of the Allied forces' push to liberate Europe from Nazi occupation."
