Two servicemen from Wales, return home from The Far East
Two servicemen from Wales, return home from The Far East, to be greeted by their family and friends.
The two men are from Treorchy, Rhondda South Wales and both a lieutenant colonels.
Note to editors, the caption is hard to read, but it is possible that one of gentleman is a Mr A Hillman, or A Wellman, from 31 Cardiff Road, Treorchy (although in 2020 only Cardiff Street exists) and the other lived at 163 Dumfries Street. Possibly a Mr Prellove, or Prellue.
Royal Welch Fusiliers and The Welsh Regiment both fought in The Far East in World War Two, so it is possible the men are from one or other of these.
Picture undated, but Mirrorpix will suggest 1st September 1945, after the War in the East ended

EDITORS COMMENTS
Two servicemen from Wales, Lieutenant Colonels hailing from Treorchy, Rhondda South Wales, are warmly welcomed home by their loved ones after returning from The Far East. In this undated photograph, captured possibly on 1st September 1945 following the end of World War Two in the East, joy and happiness radiate as family and friends gather to greet these brave heroes. Although the caption is somewhat difficult to decipher, it suggests that one of the gentlemen may be Mr A Hillman or A Wellman from 31 Cardiff Road in Treorchy. It is also mentioned that the other serviceman resided at 163 Dumfries Street—possibly a Mr Prellove or Prellue. These details provide a glimpse into their personal lives amidst their remarkable military service. Both Royal Welch Fusiliers and The Welsh Regiment fought valiantly in The Far East during World War Two; hence it is plausible that these men belong to either regiment. Their return marks a significant moment for all who hold Wales dear. This image encapsulates an era defined by sacrifice and resilience—a testament to the indomitable spirit of those who served. As we reflect upon this poignant snapshot from history, let us honor not only these two lieutenant colonels but all those who selflessly defended our freedom during WWII.
