Artists concept of Cryolophosaurus

Over 20 feet long and weighing as much as a ton, Cryolophosaurus is the first dinosaur to have been unearthed by paleontologists in Antarctica. This formidable predator hunted 190 million years ago during the Early Jurassic period.
While the Earth was warmer and Antarctica closer to the equator during Cryolophosaurus time, the continent was still far enough south for the climate to be temperate rather than tropical. Much of Antarctica was likely covered by dense forests, at least near the coasts. Cryolophosaurus remains were found on a mountain range that would have placed it at an altitude of about 10, 000 feet and 1, 000 miles from the South Pole during its reign

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the artist's concept of Cryolophosaurus, a fearsome dinosaur that roamed Antarctica during the Early Jurassic period. Measuring over 20 feet in length and weighing as much as a ton, this formidable predator was the first dinosaur ever discovered by paleontologists in Antarctica. During Cryolophosaurus' time, although Antarctica was closer to the equator and experienced warmer temperatures than today, it still possessed a temperate climate rather than a tropical one. Dense forests likely covered much of the continent, particularly near its coasts. The remains of Cryolophosaurus were found on a mountain range situated approximately 10,000 feet above sea level and 1,000 miles from the South Pole. In this digitally generated image artwork, we see Cryolophosaurus standing tall with its distinctive crest adorning its head. Its sharp fangs and teeth signify its carnivorous nature while highlighting its role as an apex predator during prehistoric times. This illustration transports us back to an era when monstrous creatures like Cryolophosaurus ruled the wilderness. The vibrant colors and attention to detail bring this ancient reptile to life before our eyes. As we gaze upon this depiction of Cryolophosaurus' existence millions of years ago, we are reminded of Earth's rich natural history and marvel at the toughness and fierceness displayed by these magnificent animals.
