EDITORS COMMENTS
Step back in time to the early 1920s with this print capturing the interior of Princes Garage, located on Princes Street in Truro, Cornwall. The bustling scene showcases a collection of vintage vehicles proudly displayed within the showroom of H. T. P. Motors Ltd. Amongst them are four remarkable automobiles bearing registrations AF 3194, AF 6295, AF 6353, and RL 6304. Two men can be seen standing on the left-hand side, perhaps discussing the latest automotive advancements or assisting customers with their inquiries. This image provides a glimpse into an era when cars were still considered a luxury and marvel of engineering. The garage's premises extended from Princes Street all the way to Back Quay where its workshops were situated. Sadly, this iconic building met its fate in 1934 when it was demolished to make way for an extended and refurbished garage. Preserved by photographer Arthur William Jordan's lens, this historic snapshot offers us a window into Cornwall's motoring past before World War II engulfed the world in turmoil. It serves as a testament to both Hosken Trevithick and Polkinhorn - prominent names associated with Cornish history - as well as HTP Motors Ltd. , who played an integral role in shaping Truro's automotive landscape. This evocative print is not intended for commercial use but rather invites viewers to immerse themselves in nostalgia and appreciate the rich heritage captured within.
