Leonardo Da Vinci, (1933). Portrait of Italian Renaissance artist, sculptor, engineer and inventor Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519), whose scientific drawings featured ideas such as a spinning wheel and a flying machine. He dissected human bodies (which he used to produce accurate anatomical drawings), studied the properties of light and water and worked in Milan as an inspector of fortifications, and later in Florence as a military engineer. Only 17 of his completed paintings are known to survive, but all are regarded as masterpieces. They include the Mona Lisa and The Last Supper. After a self portrait made c1512-1515. From " Gestalten Der Weltgeschichte", a book of cigarette-card portrait miniatures of figures in world history from the last four hundred years. [Germany, 1933]

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the enigmatic genius of Leonardo da Vinci, one of the most influential figures in Italian Renaissance art. The portrait showcases a bearded man with an intense gaze, revealing the depth of his intellect and creativity. Leonardo da Vinci's contributions to various fields are truly remarkable. As an artist, he created only 17 surviving paintings, including iconic masterpieces like the Mona Lisa and The Last Supper. His scientific drawings featured groundbreaking ideas such as a spinning wheel and a flying machine, showcasing his visionary mind. Beyond his artistic pursuits, da Vinci's insatiable curiosity led him to dissect human bodies for accurate anatomical drawings. He also delved into studying light and water properties while working as an inspector of fortifications in Milan and later as a military engineer in Florence. The print is from "Gestalten Der Weltgeschichte" a book featuring cigarette-card portrait miniatures of historical figures spanning four centuries. Although the creator remains unknown, this image perfectly encapsulates Leonardo da Vinci's profound impact on art, science, engineering, and invention during the 15th and 16th centuries. As we admire this portrayal of Leonardo da Vinci's face etched with wisdom earned through years of exploration and creation, we are reminded that his legacy continues to inspire generations even today.
