This print showcases the Minuteman (Minuteman. NS-10Q missile guidance system from a Minuteman ICBM), an iconic piece of technology that played a crucial role in the United States' defense strategy during the Cold War era. Developed by Autonetics, this powerful missile guidance system was an integral part of the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) starting from 1962. The image captures the intricate details of this historical artifact, revealing its complex wiring and advanced computing capabilities. The D17B computer, which operated this formidable weapon, is prominently displayed alongside it. Each unit came with a staggering price tag of $234,000, highlighting both the technological sophistication and immense value placed on national security at that time. Now housed in the esteemed Computer History Museum in California's Silicon Valley, this exhibit stands as a testament to human ingenuity and scientific progress. With over 3,000 artifacts spanning four decades of computing history, including this remarkable missile guidance system, visitors are transported back to pivotal moments where science and technology intersected with global politics. As we observe this photograph print today, we are reminded not only of its historical significance but also of humanity's relentless pursuit for innovation and security. This relic serves as a reminder of our collective responsibility to learn from our past while striving for peace and stability in an ever-changing world.
